About JJBC

Founded in 1998, the Jiu-Jitsu BC Society (JJBC) is the provincial sport organization that promotes traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu styles in the province of British Columbia. 

Our objectives are to:

    • Advocate the collective position of Jiu-Jitsu organizations in BC.
    • Provide a means to facilitate open and continuous communication within the Jiu-Jitsu community in BC.
    • Act as liaison between the members and the public and private sectors of BC.
    • Offer a vehicle to promote and enable the pursuit of excellence in our member organizations.
    • Promote greater participation in Jiu-Jitsu in BC.

Board of Directors

The JJBC Board of Directors are voted in annually and are completely voluntary. Meetings are held approximately every two months.

As president, presides, wherever possible, at all meetings of the Society and at all meetings of the Directors; Act as Chief Executive Officer of the Society; Exercise general supervision and control over Directors and committees of the Society; Appoint ad-hoc committees; Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees and sub-committees; Be a signing officer of the Society; Prepare the agenda for all meetings of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee; Represent the Society or delegate others to represent the Society on appropriate occasions.

Vice-President and Secretary - Ari Bolden

As vice-president, presides at meetings of the Board of Directors in the absence of the President.  As secretary, ensures that; i) correspondence of the Society is conducted; ii) notices of meetings of the Society and the Directors are issued; iii) minutes of all meetings of the Society and the Directors are kept; iv) records and documents of the Society are kept in safe custody; v) Register of Members is maintained; vi) all reporting requirements of the Society Act are complied with; Ensure safe custody of the Common Seal of the Society; Coordinates and disseminates incoming information to member dojos; Organizes meetings; Distributes member passports or identity cards; Manages and distributes all JJBC incoming postal mail and fax communications.

As communications director, issues press releases and initiates media coverage; Responsible for coordinating any communications for the promotion of the JJBC Society; Oversees website.

Events Director - Jeremy Buerge

Plans schedules and arranges quarterly Technical Seminars.

Membership Director - Joe Friede

Oversees the induction of new dojos to the JJBC society.  Receives and handles the administration of all new individual memberships from dojos.

Treasurer - Kelly Meade

Ensures that financial records are kept, including books of account, to comply with the Society Act; Ensures that Financial Statements are provided to the Board of Directors and others as required; Serves as Chair of the Finance Committee; Ensures that a budget is submitted at the annual general meeting and at other times as required; Is a signing officer of the Society; Receives and dispenses all monies for JJBC; Recommends the membership fee structure; Ensures appropriate financial procedures and safeguards are in place and maintained; Holds primary responsibility for the Society's general funds and bank accounts; Maintains appropriate relationships with the Society's bookkeepers, accountants, and auditors.
