Philosophy Self-protection and traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, primarily stand-up style, and as taught by Steve Hiscoe of Chilliwack. The self-protection component teaches the use-of-force-continuum and appropriate responses to physical threats, with an emphasis on learning how to avoid physical confrontations altogether. The Can-Ryu style of Jiu-Jitsu has a core training component of "what to do when the bad-guy grabs you". A response to an attack under the Can-Ryu style, can be characterized by a distraction followed by an unbalancing strike, a throw or controlling technique, and if required, further strikes until the attacker is no longer a threat (blow-throw-blow).

Chief Instructor

Sensei Iulian Badragan is a 3rd degree black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and a 1st degree black belt in Shotokan Karate. He also trained for some time in Aikido and Ninjutsu. Nowadays, his primary focus is on practical Self Defence.

He worked in the past as a University Physics Professor and currently he fights cancer as a Medical Physicist. His students are largely hospital colleagues from Abbotsford and Fraser Valley Cancer Centres.

Philosophy We value the traditional Martial Arts' moral virtues over superior fighting abilities. Rather than concentrating on mastering a wide variety of techniques, we use them as simple exercises to help understanding the basic principles behind them. Philosophy

Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu uses fundamentals that even the odds in self-defense situations, transcending differences in size, weight, height, and reach, making it accessible to both genders no matter their size. We teach Jiu-Jitsu with the attitude that you should never have to raise your hands in violence. That being said, should you ever need to raise your hands in self-defense, you'll have an arsenal of techniques to fall back on, using only as much force as necessary to nullify the situation.

Michael Seamark is a Honbu Jikimon Kaiden-Shihan in the Japanese self-defense art of KoKoDo JuJutsu and KoKoDo Kappo Shiatsu. This is one of the highest appointments a student of KoKoDo can achieve. It is only given to hand full of senior masters that are dedicated assisting Soke Irie’s teachings as taught in Japan today.

Philosophy

KoKoDo JuJutsu is a traditional Japanese JuJutsu and budo that is designed to handle attacks by applying kuzushi, wrist locks, joint manipulation. The aim of is not to injure but rather to neutralize, controlling an attacker The ability to neutralize and control both the attacker and the situation is the hallmark of this style. KoKoDo JuJutsu is Budo and is self-defense and not a sport or competition based art. KoKoDo provides international students with the rare opportunity of learning and studying an authentic style of Japanese JuJutsu.
